Happy Monday everyone!
I'm home sick today, as I was on Friday...which is why I didn't blog on Friday. I hope you didn't miss me too much ;-)
I started not to blog today, but wanted to get your opinion on something.
I stayed on the couch all weekend watching tv (when I was awake), and happened to catch some of Saturday Night Live. As you can imagine, they had a field day with the Tiger Woods situation.
Rihanna was the musical guest on SNL, so my question to you is this - was this skit depicting domestic violence insensitive to Rihanna? Do you think SNL would have done this skit had the genders been reversed? And if not, do you feel there's a double standard when it comes to domestic violence?
That's about all the energy I have today as far as typing, but let me know your thoughts on this. I'm curious to see your responses.
Go!

P.S. Oh, and if you missed Rihanna and "Shy Ronnie's" skit on SNL, it was great!

First Bitches!
Now about the SNL situation. I am no expert at television show scheduling but I'm pretty sure Rhianna was scheduled well before Tigergate. SNL being what they are would NEVER let a scandal like Tigergate go no matter who the guest hostess was. Having said all that I dont think that they were purposely insensitive but I do think that Rhianna could have been offended by their antics. Just my opinion.
I don't think it was insensitive, and Tony is right - as soon as all this happened with Tiger, I KNEW SNL would have a field day with it. They're not going to let that one go, no way!
Tony, I agree...I'm sure Rihanna was scheduled long before all this happened with Tiger.
SNL is known to push the envelope, so you know they were going to go at it hard. The timing was just unfortunate I guess.
But I guess my question is really do you think they'd have done a skit like that if the genders were reversed? I think they might have, but not sure.
Hmmmm... not sure if they would have done the skit if the roles were reversed because they could have done a Chris Brown skit. (Did they? I don't watch SNL that much)
I think the comedic value in the skit is that a woman beating up a man is not what we usually see... said it makes Tiger out to be mad punkish!!!
I'm glad I read this Brooke. I thought you were asking if SNL was being insensitive to Tiger!
Oh yeah.. feel better Brooke!
Yes I don't think they did it on purpose BUT they could not let that pass. I don't think it was insensitive to anyone.. Domestic violence is a reality. And all Rhianna has to do is turn on a tv.. The world can't shelter her forever. She went thru it now she's gotta learn to cope & hopefully move on
He's GGGGRRRRREEEEAAAATTTTTT!! Tiger, Tiger, Tiger!! He's just like every other guy out there... cheater, cheater, cheater!!
Thanks Pretty Ricky!
And I also think the comedic value was in the fact that he was trying to hide it...cuz I almost died when he said he accidentally got run over by his own car :-) I think it had more to do with the absurdity of the things he was saying, because you don't get your face all scratched up by running into a tree without your airbags deploying :) Nor does she need to bust out your back windows to get you out :)
@Stef,
Do you really think EVERY guy is a cheater? I know you may not think I'm qualified to ask that question, but I guess I'm wondering if all women think all men cheat?
As for the skit, I don't think it was insensitive or crossed the line. While I do think a double standard exists, I think it goes more along the lines of what Brooke said, the absurdity of the claims that his injuries came from anything other than his wife.
Tha Rhianna skit was funny...I missed some if it & saw her perfomrance at the end, but I can't remember if when the whole Mike Tyson & Robin Givens stuff was going on if they did a skit on that, I remember they did something, but not sure if it was on the actual abuse, or if it was on how he just sat there like a bump on a log while she publicly flogged him in front of "Baba Wawa"
Not insensitive at all.
Anyone who thinks so is TOO sensitive.
SNL is a satire. We've become too PC-conscious in the last two decades.
Back in the early 80's, in the Richard Pryor / Garrett Morris Chevy Chase / Bill Murray days ... it was much more open. More oepn to controversy & debate.
In turn, more enlightening.
Feel better Sweetie, I wish I could make you some Ginseng Chicken Soup (ancient Korean cure-all).
Feel better Brookey!!!!!!
Feel Better Brooke .. I am in the same boat.
I don't think that it was insensitive, it just brings more attention to the issue. Rihanna and Shy Ronnie Skit . . HILAROIUS!!
Here is my conspiracy theory coming out of all this. Even though Tiger tried to hide it...everyone knows this women went to work on his face. Do you think the city did not press charges because she is a women...let me rephrase..because she is a white women. I heard the laws in FL are pretty strict. And think about it..tiger woods does not have to press charges for it to be a crime. Rihanna didn't press charges and they still went after Chris Brown. Hmmmmmm
I can't wait to hear Chris Rock's next stand up on this whole thing.
Thanks everyone for your well wishes. Hopefully today will be the day I get better! :-(
I wish I had some of that soup V, I could use it!
I know it's not TMI Tuesday... but do women want sex when they are sick?
LOL
OMG Pretty Ricky! I've been a horny nut basket since I've been sick! I can't explain it!
(...okay...so maybe I should have kept that to myself....)
