Happy Hump Day!
With spring time around the corner, and warm breezes tickling my nose, I begin to feel a bit tingly. Not moist between the thighs tingly (although that’s never a bad thing), but lovey dovey spring time tingly. First date tingly.
Ah…remember first dates?
I don’t mean “hang-outs.” I don’t mean “hook-ups.” I mean real, butterflies-in-your stomach first dates.
Who doesn't remember the nervousness, excitement or awkwardness of a first date? Wanting to make a good impression. Wondering if he or she will call again. When will the next date be? Recounting each moment, in detail, to friends afterward. Smiling from ear to ear the next morning after a wonderful night out. Like Eddie Murphy after his date in Coming to America – “to be loved, to be looooveeed.” That kinda feeling…
Whether it took place last night or decades ago, it's one of those things that folks don't often forget, whether you were 12 or 40 years old when it took place. Nothing feels as sweet as having a good first date. A real date - where there are no expectations, the conversation is flowing, holding hands is easy, the kisses are sweet, the company is great – and you never want the night to end. That’s a great first date. Remember those?
What was your best memory of a great first date? It’s almost spring time y’all!

FIRST!!!
BITCHES!!
who da hell is this Tyson person taking my spot!!???
My best memory of a great first date was probably my first date ever. It was such a sweet feeling that I don't think I've felt since I was 16, simply because it was the first one. I think my mom dropped me off at the mall to meet him, and we held hands and went to the movies. It was so innocent and pure, and I think that's why it was my best first date.
Funny Story:
It was 1994, I was junior in high-school and working at the Central Library in Jamaica Queens. While, on my shift, I saw this girl with the T-Boz hairstyle and cut (-t-Boz creep days). I went over with my book pushcart and struck a conversation....blah blah blah. I get her number. Now I have this girl's number and I am like when should I call her to set something up. Being the G that I am (NOT) I decide I will wait 4 days to call! On the fourth day, I call her up and ask to speak with her. She says yeah this is she, who's calling? I say it's the guy you met at the library....she goes yeah " don't ever call my f'n house again" Click.....long silence.....dial tone! To this day I am mystified by what I did to her! I think that was the day I realized women are just plain crazy! Still love all of y'all!

LOL! That's funny...but that's not a date! Are you saying you didn't get a date from her cuz you waited too long to call her? :) LOL!
She was crazy tho.
Hey Brooke!! Great seeing you @ the SU reunion party over the weekend!! Anyhoo... It's pretty ironic that this your blog topic today as I am going on one of those "first dates" tonight. I happened to meet her on match.com and SHE was the one who winked @ me!! I thought she was pretty cute so we exchanged numbers and recently began getting to know each other. The phone conversation has been flowing rather nicely and we are meeting face to face for the first time over dinner today. Wish me luck y'all!! ;o)
My best first date was also when I was in high school, probably my first date ever. I had been checking for her for MONTHS. Finally, one of my boys told her that I liked her and out of nowhere she came up to me at my locker and started talking to me.
I asked her out and took her to the movies, and she kissed me on the cheek at the end of the night. You couldn't tell me I wasn't the man after that. Totally fell in love and finally had a "girlfriend." She was my girl all throughout high school and we broke up when we both went away to college. One of my best relationships.
Jeff!
It was great seeing you too! Good luck on your date tonight!!!
Good luck Jeff!
Hmm first date... it's been so long since I've had one of those but I remember the feeling well. My first actual date was on my prom night lol. Not only was it my first date, but it was the first time I actually danced with a guy. I had a million and one butterflys and he was super cute. We danced and laughed all night and at the end, he walked me to my door and was too scared to kiss me. booooooooo lol. I think my mother scared him to death with "the talk". It was still a great night though. :-)
When I was 13, I had my first real girlfriend ever. My younger brother was messing with this half-Asian, half Black girl named Tisha...we jokingly called her "Ya-Ta!" I know, f'd up, but she thought it was funny. Anyways, when she would call to speak to my brother, if he wasn't there, she'd just talk to me. Well, one day, she was like "my girl Rebekah is your age and she can't find a good dude - y'all should talk". She put her on the phone, and I kicked those New Jack Swing funky ballistics! Lmao! After about a week and some change of phone convos, we agreed to meet at the mall.
Well, we get to the mall, meet up...and me and my brother can't believe it. This chick LITERALLY looks like Halle Berry in Strictly Business! My brother was actually mad, cuz she looked better than HIS girl. We walked around the mall, did a little shopping (well, the girls did - me and my bruh just priced some sneakers), caught a flick, and wound up necking in various stores and around corners. There was serious butterflies; we were BOTH really feeling each other.
She was like the ULTIMATE trophy piece, even though that's not why I liked her. She was single cuz she was like part of the only Black family in a waaaayyyyyy out suburb. So she jumped at the chance to have a date with a Black dude, and I was that dude! That relationship lasted a good year, I'd say - whenever she would catch the bus to Buffalo, I'd laugh at the looks dudes would give her. Like she was a t-bone steak and they hadn't eaten in 3 days! Lmao!
The date was mad simple...but we had A BALL! We laughed and played around all day. That's back when going to the mall was a big deal on a weekend for cats. Still one of the best date memories I have.
Ironically...my brother would hook up with her years later after we broke up. I had no issue with it, encouraged it in fact. I remember him saying "man, she looks TOO GOOD to pass up!" Lolz.
Damn Rameer, was this chick 13 too? LOL! Sounds like you hooked up with an older chick if she looked like Halle Berry in Strictly Business LOL!
Brooke,
I dont't know why I didn't get a date with her! I remember her to be fine though! Maybe I should have called her the same day or one day later.
My first date actually came when my boys forced me to talk to this girl with a nice short haircut...looked like the old Toni Braxton cut. ( I have a thing for R&B chicks LOL) I was so reluctant because I thought she was really cute. I met her in the library too! I was hiding in the stacks, when my boy started calling over to her. Of course she looked like, why is this guy calling me in a library. If my memory serves me right she came over and my boy tried to set it all up. He calls me over and we shake hands. I was so nervous...the first thing that comes out of my mouth is " would you like a kit-kat?" Her face just lit up with a bright smile! I later learned that kit-kats were her favorite candy! She and I exchanged numbers and would talk on the phone every night! It was the best experience I ever had! She later went off to Spelman college and well you can imagine that didn't work out for me, with Morehouse right across the street. This girl exposed me to a lot, got me out the house and we used to have fun! Eating at Uno's ( our first date), chilling in A&S Plaza (now Manhattan Mall) catching movies ( first movie we saw was Species). I will never forget her!
The last time I saw her was in 97' went to see Men In Black! After that, I haven't seen or heard from her since! Such is life!
BB
@ Jay - she was 15, but used to play it off to people like she was 16-17! She was VERY developed...which made me look like even MORE of the man! In fact...if I'm being forthcoming...messing with her got me attention from other females all through high school. She was like a big sign that read "this dude has something BETTER than all the rest of these high school boys!"
AND she was taller than me. Rebekah was like 5 ft 8...I had to have been 5 ft 7 at best (I'm 5 ft 8 as an adult). Had the Halle haircut too...she was the first girl I ever dated that caused everybody to pay attention to me and whomever I was dating.
I honestly think I got addicted to that attention looking back. Cuz after her, I dated TONS of "model chicks" or women that were just stunners and would make heads turn. It was more important to me that they were as beautiful on the inside, but I always got - and still do - that I always kept a "bad chick" or that I must be superficial. People who know me know that wasn't true, but even they would say "you HAVE messed with a lot of gorgeous women in your time"...
My first date was with a girl who took ME to get ice cream. I think I was like 12 or something. I was sprung after that. She was 13, so she was "older." I've loved older women ever since (like Brooke, ;) LOL!)
My first date was with a guy I worked with. It was cool, but I don't know that I've ever really had a wowing 1st date experience. My best date was to the drive-in movie a couple years ago. I'm very old school at heart, so the idea of sitting in the moonlight, watching movies was a throwback to the '50s. I felt like the girl in the poodle skirt, hoping for a kiss from the bad boy. LOL (vivid imagination)
Anyway, that was the best date, mainly because I really like the guy... he's still around, although he works my nerves sometimes, but we always have great outings.
Sidebar: I've noticed a lot of men these days don't call them "dates." Whattup wit dat?
what do they call them?
I dunno. Haven't had one in a long time. LOL
Seriously, it's like some of them are paranoid about claiming they are "dating" you. I'm too old to "hang out" or for a guy to just "roll past"... I need to know WHAT it is we're doing.
I hear you girl, I hear you!
